Provenance

Well Kent mountain Guide and pioneer Scottish climber, Allen Fyffe, kindly donated this high altitude suit and here's what he had to say about it:-
" These are Goretex windsuits made by Berghaus for a 1980's expedition to Broad Peak. They could be used either on top of ordinary high altitude clothing or on top of a one piece down suit and were designed to be put on when wearing crampons. They were all one size and were large enough to fit all the climbers including the largest. Consequently, they were quite voluminous on the smaller members of the team!"
It seems the suits had different colour schemes so that climbers could be identified from a distance. Fellow mountain Guide, Bob Barton, is seen in the photo opposite wearing a different colour version in a snow cave during the expedition.
