David Baker kindly donated this tent in 2018 and here’s what he had to say about it:-
“ The Black’s Mountain Tent was purchased direct from Black’s in 1963. At the time it was pretty much top of the range. Over years it has been to Iceland, Greenland, Peru and Pakistan. It spent many a summer in the Biolay wood at Chamonix in the days when climbers were allowed to camp there, as well as the other popular centres in the Alps. Naturally, it has been all over Scotland and the UK but as time went on I got older and less prepared to carry a heavy tent so it became a museum piece, hence my desire to find a good home for it.
Black’s are still alive and kicking in 2021, though they seem to be an online only business selling mostly other people’s gear.
We have lots of the original Black’s gear in the collection. Check it out for more info and history.
