Rohan(Clarke)
England
Paul and Sarah Howcroft took the mountaineering world by storm in 1972 when they created Rohan, an innovative, stylish and sometimes controversial company that brought fashion, style and functionality to mountain clothing which was long overdue.
……at last the Brits could pose alongside the continentals in the bars of Chamonix and the cable cars of Zermatt!
Moleskin cords, Derby tweed and Bonneville wool became Windlord, lycra, viscose and helenca…..the old school were choking on their beer and fags!
Not sure, but Craghoppers seem to have been one of the earlier products and we think that a company called Clarkes, in Yorkshire, made them for Rohan..late 80’s(?)
Striders and Super Striders came later, along with many other innovative ideas.
This pair came from Jane O’Donovan, wife of former owner, Roger.
