Provenance

We found this lovely old Zippo in a box of junk and thought it was a great piece of mountain heritage since just about everybody smoked a fag in the good old days and needed something to light it with.
Seems that an American, George G Blaisdell, started making lighters in Bradford, USA in 1933, offering a lifetime guarantee and claiming that it wouldn’t blow out in the wind and generally it didn’t.
They were hugely popular with the American GI’s during World War Two and have remained so in subsequent decades understandibly with the outdoor/wet match brigade. The only minor issue we can see is the requirement for specialist lighter fuel which is basically highly refined petrol.
Date stamp on this one tells us it was made in Sept. 1991.
